A columbarium is a structure or building for the respectful and often public storage of cinerary (ashes) remains. They are typically found in places such as parks, gardens, forests, and other suitable settings. The word derives from the Latin Columba and originally referred to compartmentalized housing for doves and pigeons, and has some relation to the compartmentalized housing of hollowed-out trees occupied by some birds.
Pet Columbarium is modern and up-to-date housing for pets that can be placed into the columbarium at your local cemetery or pet cemetery. Some cemeteries have a designated area on their grounds that is appropriate for pets. Others may allow you to bury your pet anywhere on their grounds, as long as you purchase a grave marker within a set time frame – usually between 6 months and 1 year after the burial. Many pet owners prefer to have a marker in place that has their pet’s name, with perhaps a short memorial inscription.
